Rahul Bose and his dreams of a rugby school
Actor, activist and rugby player Rahul Bose is in Chennai for the second edition of Asian Rugby 7s series.
Rahul Bose, last seen in Bollywood movie Dil Dhadakne Do and Kolly flick Vishwaroopam as Kamal Haasan’s nemesis, is in town to support the Asian Rugby 7s Series 2016. He speaks to us about his love for the sport and his upcoming project.
About whether or not rugby is given as much importance as other sports in India, Rahul, an ace rugby player himself says, “It’s too early to say that rugby isn’t as much of a recognised sport. I’ve played the sport for 34 years. And I can say that a lot of work has been done behind the scenes for it to be recognised by the government. A lot of hard work is still going on to promote it. Even this tournament is a punctuation mark from where we will keep building.” He also has a dream for his first love, “I plan to, outside of the Indian National Rugby Union, start a rugby school. Of course, for that, I’ll have to look at land and other factors, so it’ll take three to four years for it to become a reality.”
When asked about his work with Kamal Haasan, the actor replies, “Working with him was definitely an educational experience. He is a very creative and imaginative person. Everyone asks me when they’ll get to see Vishwaroopam 2. All I can say is, it’s been shot and it’s for Kamal sir to decide what to do with it.”
Rahul also has no favourites when it comes to actors and directors in the Tamil industry. He says, “I don’t make plans. No matter what language it is. I have worked in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali and for all of the films, I was attracted by the story. You have to understand that not a lot of Tamil cinema comes to Mumbai because the city is obsessed with itself. Even Satyajit Ray’s movies took a long time coming to the city. But I have watched a little Marathi cinema in my spare time and I really enjoyed Court.”
He also has us curious with a hint at an upcoming project, “I will be making a huge announcement in 10 days and I can’t really talk about it. All I can say right now is that I’ve been really busy the past year and you’ll find out in a few days.” It’s been a long time coming, Rahul!
