Renuka opens up on reuniting with Madhuri, reveals what's similar between them
Actress Renuka Shahane is all praise for her Bucket List co-star.
Renuka Shahane is probably best known for her 1994 blockbuster film Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. The actress, who will once again be seen sharing screen space with Madhuri Dixit in Bucket List, is all praise for her colleague.
“She has reinvented herself, each time with dignity and grace,” she says, talking about Madhuri. Renuka believes that the two actresses’ lives and personalities are similar in several ways. “She has two boys, and so do I. There are so many issues that have affected the two of us. But we are both very level-headed,” she says.
Ask her how difficult it is to remain relevant in this day and age, and she says, “Television has evolved so much! I think it is good to take a sabbatical to observe and understand the structure of cinema and TV as it is now.”
Renuka is, however, deeply disappointed with the way the television industry has shaped up.
“I don’t think the change has been for the better. In fact, there’s no doubt in my mind that it has been for the worse. Television has lost its audience because they are getting only one particular type of content. Why not shift the focus to something that can bring about social change? Why constantly show regressive women? It’s not good for society,” she says.
The actress, who’s 2009 Marathi directorial venture Rita received much critical acclaim, is considering making a Hindi film in the future.
“I think in Marathi and English. Speaking in Hindi is something that I do when I am acting, or when I am at my in-laws’ house. Having said that, there is a subject that I have written about in Hindi. Maybe I will make a film about it because it’s a nice subject. I am not sure yet, but it’s on my bucket list,” she says.
