Too much VFX, too little time
The filmmakers often underestimate efforts needed to get high-end VFX, leading to films getting delayed.
The release of Milap Zaveri’s Marjaavaan has been pushed back because VFX for Riteish Deshmukh’s dwarf character is not complete.
Marjaavaan — starring Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Tara Sutaria — was initially slated to release on Gandhi Jayanti, the same day as the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff film, War. While War is slated to keep its release date, Marjaavan has been pushed behind.
The VFX for the film’s antagonist Riteish is reportedly taking a long time to complete. The actor is playing a dwarf in the film, similar to Shah Rukh Khan in Zero.
“The makers have made Ritesh’s character as deadly as what Peter Dinklage’s role was in X Men: Days of the Future Past. It is a role that Ritiesh has worked extensively for, and the kind of VFX required is mammoth. The problem with many films, including Total Dhamaal, 2.0 and Manikarnika, has been that the makers have not calculated the effort required to get the high end VFX in place, and that has meant that the films would get delayed. This is exactly what Marjaavaan also has fallen prey to. Even Saaho had a similar issue,” says our source.
As per the film’s posters, the Milap Zaveri directed film will release on November 22.
