Vidya Balan may have been diagnosed with dengue and advised bed rest by the doctors, but that isn’t stopping the versatile actress from preparing for her next role in Malayalam-Hindi bilingual film, Aami.
Vidya is using the time off to prepare for her role in the upcoming Kamala Das biopic, in which she’s all set to step into the shoes of the scandalous author and poet. The actress is currently learning Malayalam, to get a hang of the language better.
A source close to the actress says, “Vidya is not only learning Malayalam under the guidance of actress SreeDhanya, but is also reading books penned by the author, and researching her life better to understand Kamala. She’s currently taking daily classes in the language through phone and voice notes, and will be meeting the actress in the coming days.
Kamala Das, aka Kamala Surayya, was known for her open and honest treatment of female sexuality, which was free from any sense of guilt. The author, in her lifetime, came under major scrutiny for openly talking about sexuality, as well as her religious conversion.
Vidya is no stranger to portraying real life bold women on screen, having portrayed the yesteryear bombshell Silk Smitha in Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture in 2011. The actress is now gearing up for another bold and brazen biopic role with Aami.
