Another epic battle on the cards
Deepika has announced the release date of her film as Diwali 2021.
Even as Deepika Padukone, partnering with Madhu Mantenna, announced her multi-part version of the Mahabharata through the eyes of Draupadi, this will not be the first film on the subject.
No, we are not talking about Aamir Khan’s in-the-cold-storage plans to make the Mahabharata, but about a film based on Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s book The Palace of Illusions.
For those who woke up late to kindle, Chitra Banerjee Divakurni wrote the Mistress of Spices, which was adapted for the screen by Gurinder Chadha with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and directed by Gurinder’s husband Paul Mayeda Berges.
“Chitra’s book The Palace Of Illusions, which is another best-seller that tells the story of Mahabharata from the viewpoint of Draupadi, has been bought over by Son of Sardar and Zameen producer NR Pachisia, popularly known in Bollywood circles as Babloo Pachisia. Joining hands with Babloo is Dipankar Jojo Chaki – the man who has been associated with recent films like Garbage and Sonata.
Anand Neelakantan, who has penned some fictional work around the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, has been roped in to develop the book into a movie script,” inform sources in the film trade.
Deepika has announced the release date of her film as Diwali 2021. Whether the battle of the Draupadis also spread to the silver screen like it happened in the case of Ujda Chaman and Bala remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Kunal Kohli is making his version of the Ramayana even as Nitish Tiwari, Madhu Mantenna and Allu Aravind are making their magnum opus on the epic.
