Shahid Kapoor is glad Padmaavat has released, and is happy with his decision of having worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “I was very nervous, because I was a new person in that team. But my wife (Mira Rajput) was very supportive. She told me to go and express myself,” smiles Shahid. “Honestly, it’s not the most author-backed role in the film. It was the least known of all characters, and not many knew much about Raja Rawal Ratan Singh. So it was a challenge to play the role, and the reviews and response have been wonderful.”

However, Shahid admits that the outcry of violence against it should stop. “We’ve waited for a very long time, especially after the critics have seen the film. We’re trying to keep up with the response, since Twitter has gone berserk. The response is very positive,” adds the actor. “We’ve been saying this all this while that one should see the film and not go by pre-conceived notions. And after the Supreme Court said that there should not be a ban, not just for Padmaavat but for other films too, creativity should just get a sense of liberation. People should not be forced to see the film. It celebrates Rajput valour and have glorified them. I saw the film before release and I feel very good about it.

His better half, Mira, is proud of him too. “I think that the film is a homage to Rajput culture and tradition. And I’m extremely proud to see him play the role and do so much justice to it. Looking at him, and watching him on screen has been wonderful. I would say, without any bias, that he’s the best thing in the film,” she gushes.
