Street Dancer opens far ahead of Panga
Remo D’Souza’s Street Dancer opened on a high note with audiences taking to the dance and drama wholeheartedly.
This doesn’t look like a very favourable year for the women heroes. While 2019 was a virtual celebration of woman power, with female actors dominating the box office in Badlaa, Mission Mangal and Manikarnika 2020 has opened poorly for the biggest female actor Deepika Padukone with Chhapaak failing to create a splash.
Now Kangana Ranaut who had a fairly successful January release (Manikarnika) in 2019, has opened to an underwhelming audience in Panga. Friday audiences have come away disappointed by the film’s predictable arc and the lack of USPs. Not a heartening opening for director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari whom one expected to move to the next level with Panga after the moderately successful Bareilly Ki Barfi.

Early reports from leading multiplexes predict another big hit for Varun Dhawan and producers T- Series whose previous January release Tanhaji is still running to full houses all across India and overseas.
An unnamed personnel from a leading multiplex chain told this writer on Friday, “Going by early trends it looks like Street Dancer is far ahead. Panga hasn’t gotten itself enough shows, even the shows that they have got are not primetime slots. So it’s bound to suffer. I’d say it was a mistake to release Panga with a big 3D spectacle.”
