In October last year, director Omung Kumar had gone to Wagah Border to do a recce for his biopic Sarbjit. Now his film is finally on the floors but there seems to be a stumbling block. It has been two weeks since Omung and his team have camped themselves in Amritsar but they are yet to get the required permissions to shoot at the Wagah Border.

The team has to shoot one of the most important sequences in the film at the high-security spot. It’s the scene where Dalbir Kaur, Sarabjit’s sister, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is interacting with the officials at the border asking them to allow her to meet Sarabjit in Lahore.

As of now, the director has put that on hold and is shooting some additional portions with his lead actors Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai in the nearby locations. They are all waiting for a nod of approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs to shoot at the border.

Producer Sandeep Singh told this publication that he had applied for permissions in the month of January. “We might get the permission today. I am hoping all goes well. It has been 15 days now. But I think the country has bigger issues to handle now, which is why the permission has not come through yet.”

And if it doesn’t come at all? “We will return to Delhi as per our schedule in few days. And then we may have to come back to Mumbai and create a set of the Wagah Border. It will be disappointing for the entire team. And knowing Omung and his penchant for authenticity, he would never want to cheat his audience,” Sandeep says.
