Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hrithik Roshan in a still from 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon'.

Woohoo! Hello friends, (jumping with joy!!), we’re all set to take you through the film analysis of the ever cult classic (making it clear is important) ‘Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon’ (I am crazy for Prem) because ‘Bani bani bani re bani, Prem ki diwani bani’.

The story of this film is about Papa ki pari Sanjana.

Sanjana – always on a hormonal high – loves her animated dog which can take orders and fixes targets. It made emoticons popular way before they existed.

Her dad (Pankaj Kapoor) makes it obvious he’s the dad by wearing a cap emblazoned ‘Dad’ at all times. Sanjana’s obsession with herself is clear too – her name written on her tee, to her guitar. If that isn’t obvious, a ghostly voice takes her name in a seductive manner. No horror movie was honestly scarier than this!

Anyway, moving on, her father is often seen with a CGI parrot (‘Jaani Dushman’ effect?) who speaks only Hindi movie dialogues (‘Gaddar’, ‘Besharam’, ‘Diljale’) and can do all human things (like fire an animated gun) or inhuman things (like show its beating heart while saying ‘Dil Tera Aashiq’).

Sanjana doesn’t really share good vibes with her mother, and you don’t even get a chance to ask ‘problem kya hai’?

Oh, she has a girl gang to boot (who were nowhere close to her Veeres today) in Sunder Nagar (which the laymen call New Zealand). She spews women empowerment, and feels men better be obliged that a woman, after an arranged marriage, is staying at his house. Be right back after finding what were they were trying to prove.

Sorry couldn’t find that, but found a problem, which Sanjana and her mom love having in their life! The problem arises when Sanjana’s sister from America calls for Sanjana’s ‘arranged marriage’ to US-Settled wealthy businessman Prem.

And, enter zeisty Hrithik Roshan. His enthusiasm made you wonder if he was promoting Red Bull. He steals her heart by simply doing the possible – saving her bicycle-borne dad from crashing into a car, which was 10 feet away. Anybody heard of brakes? But then, his name is Prem. Prem Kishan.

(Here is a bit of a spoiler: This Prem is not That Prem, but an employee.)

After much running around flowers, enter Prem Kumar, who has very rightfully come to claim his wife-to-be. A very wooden-faced Abhishek Bachchan tries to do the best he can. Really! Our hearts went out to him when he realises his Sanjana is jumping around in somebody else’s Prem.

The hyper Indian sanskari mom takes charge and tries to convince Sanjana to forget her love for a replacement, because she hasn’t had sex with Prem Kishan yet!

But Sanjana ne kha li ‘Kasam Ki Kasam’ that she loves Prem Kishan.

She need not worry because her friends have the best insults for each other and she definitely would’ve learnt something like ‘jelly belly’ or ‘toolbox’.

But optimism always works! So we have a happy ending after stone-faced Abhishek Bachchan convinces the pessimistic mother (Himani Shivpuri) that enthusiastic Sanjana loves over-enthusiastic Prem Kishan.

Lo, and behold, 15 years later, we have Ranveer Singh.
