'Tragedy King' Dilip Kumar to be honoured with special gift by BEAM on 30 January
Come Tuesday, BEAM honours him with a fine-tuned presentation of songs, handpicked from the movies he has acted and the ones he is known for.
At 95, Dilip Kumar, in many ways, deserves the living legend of Bollywood title, like the way BEAM (Bank Employees Arts Movement Ernakulam), the cultural collective calls him. None has arrived till date to break the bastion he has created right from his active years in cinema in the 1940s to the 2000s. The Tragedy King, as he is nicknamed, had many honours coming his way including a Padma Vibhushan. In fact, he even holds the Guinness World Record for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor.
Come Tuesday, BEAM honours him with a fine-tuned presentation of songs, handpicked from the movies he has acted and the ones he is known for. The concert is staged by Hamsadhwani Sangeeth Sadas helmed by Jose Peter. The team comprises Farooq Thalassery, Chitra Arun, Junior Mehboob and Sajad Calicut.
Before it begins, there would be an introductory speech by film veteran John Paul. BEAM, which has been organising cultural events for the past 35 years, is planning this as its New Year programme. The programme will be held on Tuesday at 6 pm at TDM Hall, Kochi.
