Anurag Basu has no assistant director, no script and no schedule: Ranbir Kapoor
After his father Rishi Kapoor, Jagga Jasoos' actor-producer Ranbir expresses his displeasure over working with Basu.
Mumbai: Just days after actor and father of Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor-- Rishi Kapoor-- blasted Anurag Basu for ‘Jagga Jasoos’ debacle, comes another shocking revelation from Ranbir about how allegedly unorganised the director is.
On a recent chat with a YouTube channel, Ranbir spoke about Basu’s weird ways of working and how it is difficult to cope up with him. “There is no AD system, no script, no schedule. He will cancel a 40-day shoot on the third day. Like when Barfi started, I was supposed to be intense and serious. He then wanted to make it fun and then all the Chaplin stuff came,” said the ‘Barfi’ actor.
The young actors confessed to letting everything pass, thinking that like ‘Barfi’ even ‘Jagga Jasoos’ will create magic at the box office. Talking about the reason behind Ranbir forgiving Basu the first time around, he said, “Barfi was successful, so we forgive that process (of delaying). If Jagga Jasoos doesn't work, I don't think this process can be forgiven because it is irresponsible. For other people's money, time and other things.”
After Anurag Basu’s detective musical tanked at the box office, Rishi Kapoor criticised Basu for being irresponsible with the way he has handled the film. He said, “Honestly, Neetu and I saw the film on Thursday, only a day ahead of the release. Till Wednesday, Anurag Basu was still mixing the film. Can you imagine that? Pritam [composer] probably delivered the music only a week before. What can you say? Basu doesn't take an opinion from anybody. Today's filmmakers are doing this with everybody. They don't show their films before release to take opinions and treat it as though they're making a nuclear bomb. I didn't hate or love the film. I only felt it needed to be abridged by 20 minutes. But who is going to give that opinion to them? I totally agree with Ekta Kapoor when she threw him out from her film. He had problems with Rakesh Roshan while working on Kites (2010). He's such an irresponsible director that he doesn't complete the film. It was supposed to release three times in the past two years, but it kept getting delayed.”
Basu, however, has reacted to Kapoor senior's rant against him.
