Shocking: Hansal Mehta's Aligarh collects only Rs 31 lakh on day 1
The film had a very disappointing start at the box office with word of mouth not helping either.
Mumbai: Hansal Mehta’s much talked about film Aligarh starring Manoj Bajpai released on Friday. The film was screened at film festivals and had garnered good response. The makers also conduced trials much in advance for people within the industry. This is generally perceived as a mark of confidence about your product.
It came as a shocker when 'Aligarh' collected only 31 lakh (NBOC) on Friday. Released with a limited number of screens, the collections is half of what Hansal’s last film 'City of Lights' had collected on its opening day. 'City of Lights' collected approximately Rs 70 lakh on Friday and the word of mouth gave the film a decent push.
However in the case of 'Aligarh', the word of mouth hasn’t helped either.
Meanwhile the other big release, 'Tere Bin Laden 2', collected Rs 54 lakh (NBOC) on its opening day. Both the films were expected to get more numbers but ended up being a disappointment at the box office.
Watch out for this space for the weekend numbers of both the film.
