Sonam and Kareena's Veere Di Wedding will have a new title now, here is why
The film got delayed in the past because of Bebo's pregnancy.
Mumbai: Rhea Kapoor’s joint venture with Ekta Kapoor-led Balaji Films, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, is again in trouble and the makers may have to drop the title of the film altogether.
The title ‘Veeri Di Wedding’ was registered by actor-producer Jimmy Shergill for his upcoming production way before Rhea and Ekta had finalised it for their film. Since Jimmy was the first one to lock ‘Veere Di Wedding’ title, he gets to keep it, leaving Sonam-Kareena’s film without a name.
But this is not the first complication the makers of this star-studded film are facing. Initially it had been presumed that owing to her pregnancy Kareena would opt out of the project but those rumours were laid to rest by the producers.
The producers released a statement refuting them. “Kareena is a thorough professional and will start shooting for the film in August. Much like the spirit of our film, which celebrates the modern girl, Kareena is carrying on with her work and life as usual and we couldn’t be prouder to have her,” it had said.
Then the news that the movie is to be postponed started doing the rounds. Later, it was learnt that Kareena was always supposed to play a pregnant woman in the movie.
Post this, it was also speculated that Ekta Kapoor had backed out of the project due to budget constraints. A close source had revealed, “It looks like the project has hit a stumbling block yet again, as Balaji has backed out from the project, and to save losses, Anil Kapoor had met T-Series, but it didn’t work out well. Although, Kareena was paid '2 crore already in advance as her fee.”
However, Balaji denied these rumours and assured that they were working closely with producer Rhea Kapoor on the project.
When contacted a source said, “Kareena has to play a pregnant woman in the film, but it had major budget issues and has hence been postponed till an indefinite time. They might start the film in a few months.”
Amid all this, the makers changed the script from Bebo playing a non-pregnant woman to a pregnant one and, after her son Taimur’s birth, they have again changed the script back to the actress’s character being a non-pregnant female.
Confusing!
The film also stars Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania in pivotal roles.
