My way of acting is the same, whatever the film I may be doing. My ways of preparing and mouthing the dialogues are always in accordance with the character.” Neena Gupta, actor.

Vadh, a film featuring Neena Gupta along with Sanjay Mishra, was part of the 54th IFFI at Goa. We caught up with the actress, who is enjoying her second innings in the industry, for a chat.

Do you approach your characters in art film and commercial cinema differently?

My way of acting is the same, whatever the film I may be doing. My ways of preparing and mouthing the dialogues are always in accordance with the character. My costumes also match the role I’m playing, because only then can we bring the character alive on screen.

Vadh addresses the issue of loans taken by middle-class people?

This issue persists, but the film focuses on a crucial aspect – what to do without police support or the means to approach the courts. I feel we should always try to live within our means - Jitni chadar hai utne hi pair fayelane chahiye aapko.

Given your parents’ initial opposition to your entry into this industry, how do you perceive your current situation?

Well, I did come into the field of glitz and glamour and I have been enjoying every bit of my existence ever since I came here (smiles). My second innings is also shining bright, so here I am! Maybe my family was not keen on me joining films at that time. But all’s well that ends well.

You’re quite active on social media?

Yes, I enjoy it. Social media is the best medium for expressing my views. Also, people are liking my views. I am happy my opinions have a wide reach and are accepted. I intend to continue being vocal.
