Padma Shri actor Tom Alter no more: B'wood stars express grief over veteran's death
Bollywood stars like Anil Kapoor, Mahesh Bhatt, Rishi Kapoor, among others took to Twitter to express their feelings.
Mumbai: After the deaths of Vinod Khanna, Om Puri and Reema Lagoo, the film industry has been jolted with the loss of another veteran this year, actor Tom Alter.
The veteran actor, who has showcased his talent in various fields including films, theatre, television and journalism, passed away late Friday at his residence in Mumbai after a battle with cancer.
The actor was popular for films like ‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Parinda’, ‘Sardar Patel’ and ‘Gandhi’, TV shows like ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’, ‘Shaktimaan’ and plays such as ‘In Ghalib In Delhi’.
Alter had also worked in English, Bengali, Assamese and Telugu films and also conducted Sachin Tendulkar’s first-ever interview.
He was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the government in 2008.

Alter is survived by wife Carol, son Jamie, and daughter Afshaan.
