In an exclusive chat with IMDb, Zahan reflected on how theatre shaped his craft, a memorable lesson from Hansal Mehta on the sets of Faraaz, and the work ethic that runs in the Kapoor family.
When asked what he would have missed if he hadn’t started his career in theatre, Kapoor shared, "I would have missed out on so much. I think theatre has taught me the respect of the craft, what it means to work together in tandem with a lot of people, so I am very happy. It is very foundational as a craft for an actor, so that is really nice."
When asked about an incident from the sets of Faraaz that stayed with him, he revealed, "It was the first day that we were shooting, and I had my first scene with Hansal Mehta sir. We did the scene a couple of times, and then Hansal sir said, ‘moving on.’ I said, ‘Sir, we can do it again a little better.’ He said, ‘No, I got it.’ To that, I said, ‘No sir, we can do it better,’ and he said, ‘Why? You want to feel like you have worked hard?’ I said, ‘No, no.’ He asked me if I trusted him, and I said, ‘Yes sir, of course, I trust you.’ So Hansal sir also taught me that you don’t need to overdo it just for the sake of it. Trust the director, give the take, and move on."
When asked about a quality or work ethic common to all the Kapoors, he revealed, "Yeah, the work ethic to be really dedicated, to really want to give it your best, I think that is really important. I remember Chintu uncle, Rishi Kapoor, would always say, ‘Don't let success go to your head, and don't let failure go to your heart.’ It's like you have to be a student of cinema, a student of the business. You can learn from everyone, from every opportunity. That attitude is what defines all of the working members of the family."
