Discussing the song's recording and enduring popularity, he said, “It has been almost 37 or 38 years but the memories still etch in my mind. Those days I would be busy hopping from one studio to another as I would record at least 4 songs in a day. I remember when I first met the doyen of the music industry Raja saab[ Ilaiyaraaja] to lend my voice for "Ae Zindagi Gale laga Le,” I was astounded to see a short statured person and so talented. He is the top-most talented musician that I came to know only after meeting him then. In those days, we weren’t inclined towards South music or musicians, hence I came to be acquainted with him that day.”
Adding further about the popularity of the song, he said, “I realised the popularity of the song while I was in Delhi performing for a programme when I received almost 50 letters to sing Ae Zindagi. I told the crowd that I don’t remember the lyrics. Surprisingly, in 7 minutes a beautiful girl wrote the lyrics and handed it over to me. I then sang the song for the audiences on their demand. It was a very heartwarming experience. I came to know the popularity of "Ae Zindagi" on this day. Whenever I hear this song, Sridevi comes alive in my memories."
On Arijit Singh lending his voice to SRK starrer film ,"Dear Zindagi" for the soulful number, "Ae Zindagi" Suresh Wadkar Said, "Arijit is not only an excellent singer but is a fully prepared classical singer as well. Arijit was introduced by my wife Padma who mentored him in the Gurukul. Arjit till today addresses her as mom. Arijit would sit in a corner during his gurukul days and practice rigorously is not only sincere but hard working as wee, Ae Zindagi sung in his voice has been appreciated. I loved his singing especially, this number. I wish him every bit of success.”
