According to a leading distributor, ace producer Dil Raju is set to reclaim Telugu theatrical rights for his upcoming film ‘Game Changer’.
“He is holding negotiations with Zee Studios to reclaim Telugu theatrical rights from their 'all rights inclusive' deal since the film has triggered a lot of buzz, ” he says and adds, ‘Ram Charan stocks are soaring, and also his combination with Shankar triggered a lot of interest among Telugu viewers. He intends to release Telugu versions in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and a few other states on his own,” he adds.
Recently, Telugu stars like Prabhas (Kalki 2898 AD) and Jr NTR (Devara) proved that the Telugu market has expanded and also fetched Rs 130 to 150 crore net collections in each film. "With hiked ticket rates and also riding on the legion of mega fans and the general audience for sensational opening collections. Dil Raju would be able to cash on the Sankranthi festival mood and grab more eyeballs since he has numerous theatres and also a strong distribution network. He could exploit the market and could release the film in more than 800-odd theatres and also by screening six to seven shows in many theatres on day one and mint money," he points out.
If the deal comes through, ZEE Studios and Anil Thadani will be releasing the Hindi version, which is a huge market, along with Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, and recover its investment. “Zee bought all rights for Rs 350 crore some time ago but the budget has also crossed Rs 400 crore. The deal has to be revised upwards and discussions are underway and the issues would be sorted out soon’ he points out. "The massive teaser launch in Lucknow has given the film the right impetus across India and more promotions in varied cities are awaited to keep the momentum going until the release of the film on January 10,' he concludes.
