J K Rowling criticised for casting Johnny Depp
Actor was accused of abusing his wife Amber Heard
After it was announced that actor Johnny Depp was cast in the sequel to the movie-adaptation of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the book’s author J.K. Rowling was hit with criticism from people online, for casting a “known wife abuser”. Depp, who was accused of being violent with his estranged wife Amber Heard, was panned on Twitter, with one user writing, “hello @jk_rowling @FantasticBeasts the Harry Potter universe is all about being against the abuse of power and yet you cast a known abuser? (sic)” while others said they wouldn’t be watching the next movie. Others also pointed out the double standards in Hollywood when it came to women: “Winona Ryder stole something once and her career plummeted. Johnny Depp abused his wife & he continues to get roles. i love double standards (sic)”.
