Dick Gregory's family miffed
Murphy's camp had been contacted for photos, but he was still absent from the broadcast segment.
The family of Dick Gregory, the late iconic comedian who was shockingly omitted from being honoured at the Emmys, has a bone to pick with the organisers. Apparently, the family is miffed because they didn’t hear a word from anyone involved with the Emmys regarding honouring the legendary comedian, and they are considering it a slap in the face.
One of Dick’s sons, Christian Gregory, tells TMZ.com that the omission of his name on Sunday night from the In Memoriam segment was especially disrespectful due to his father’s legacy. Christian points out that most actors and producers of colour wouldn’t even be working in the television industry without Dick’s civil rights activism or his success in entertainment.
Gregory, Charlie Murphy, Harry Dean Stanton and Frank Vincent were all left out of the tribute. Murphy’s camp had been contacted for photos, but he was still absent from the broadcast segment.
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has added all the names except Vincent’s on the website memoriam, but has not offered an explanation.
