Emma Watson to take a year-long break
The actress wants to focus on studying about feminism and her own personal development.
She’s worked tirelessly to use her fame to promote gender equality. And Emma Watson is so passionate about the cause that she has decided to take a year-long hiatus from the acting world in order to focus on studying and improving her knowledge on feminism.
Speaking to feminist icon Bell Hooks for Paper magazine, the 25-year-old confessed she was taking time off in order to work on her “personal development”.
She explained, “I’m taking a year away from acting to focus on two things, really. My own personal development is one.” Speaking about the effect her reading had on her outlook and perspective, she explained, “It feels as if sometimes I’m struggling to keep up with myself. It’s a really cool period of time for me. My work that I do for the UN is all very clearly outlined, but my personal views and opinions are still being defined, really. So it’ll be an interesting time.”
The Bling Ring actress is an UN Goodwill Ambassador, and in September she helped launch he highly publicised HeForShe campaign, where she delivered a speech calling for men to play a greater role in ending gender inequality.
