Known for his role in environmental awareness, actor Leonardo DiCaprio was criticised on Wednesday by environmentalists for travelling 8,000 miles on a private jet within two days — ironically to be honoured by an environmental group.

According to Dailymail.co.uk, Leo flew from Cannes to New York on Wednesday to receive an award at the Riverkeeper Fishermen’s Ball that works for clean-water. The actor then flew back to France on Thursday, in time to give a speech at the Cinema Against AIDS gala.

A spokesperson for the group Friends of the Earth had said that such actions are the reason why celebrities aren’t always trusted by environmentalists: “It never looks good when a high-profile advocate for action on climate change like DiCaprio hops on a private jet. It’s why we get disillusioned about people in the public eye.”
