The list of movies for the Academy Awards are all stories of courage and conviction and you can watch them at a theatre near you.
The Oscar fever is catching on in the city, what with Priyanka Chopra stepping up as the Indian actress-presenter at the Academy Awards to be aired on February 28. While everyone awaits the biggest film awards being handed out to the truly deserved, city’s movie buffs can catch the screening of the Oscar nominated movies at The Oscars Film Festival, 2016.
Rajender Singh, VP programming and distribution, Inox Leisure Ltd shares, “We are screening 14 Oscar nominated movies. Each of these movies are different from the other and unique — The Revenant and The Spotlight are new and have received more buzz and others have also picked up after nominations.” Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint managing director, PVR Ltd, says, “Movie connoisseurs are in for a treat as they catch their favourite stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and others in these internationally acclaimed movies as 14 movies are being screened.” Oscar nominated films in Bengaluru include Spotlight, Joy, The Danish Girl, Room, Inside Out, Amy, Sicario, The Revenant, Bridge of Spies, The Martian, Creed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Spectre and The Hateful Eight. Here’s a synopsis of the popular ones:
The Spotlight: Spotlight is McCarthy’s critically-acclaimed riveting story of how the Boston Globe’s team of investigative reporters uncovered widespread child abuse in the Catholic Church.
The Revenant: The film is inspired by true events where legendary explorer Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio is attacked by a bear and deserted by members of his own hunting team on an uncharted American wilderness expedition. Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, he navigates a vicious winter to survive and find redemption.
The Hateful Eight: Set a few years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape as the passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth and his fugitive Daisy Domergue, race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth will bring Domergue to justice as they encounter two strangers. The eight travellers soon come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock.
Creed: Son of former heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, Adonis Johnson Creed (Michael B. Jordan) attempts to follow his dad’s footsteps and become a boxing legend. Apollo dies at the hand of Ivan Drago in the ring, as Adonis grows
up without his dad and travels to Philadelphia to find Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), to recruit him as a trainer.
