Red carpet chronicles

From geometry to tassles, from suits to stuffed toys, from bling to social causes, here are the statements stars made at the Academy Awards!

Dev Patel, Emma Stone and Priyanka Chopra at The Oscars

The Oscars is where the best of two worlds — cinema and fashion come together, giving us a night (or morning, in our case) to remember. While the movies ruled on stage, the stars ruled the red carpet with their looks.

Our own diva Priyanka Chopra made quite an appearance with an eye-catching geometric Ralph and Russo white-and-silver panel dress. Taraji P Henson topped everyone’s best-dressed list with a navy-velvet Alberta Ferretti gown, giving off that sexy, old-school Hollywood vibe.  Emma Stone looked every bit the winner in an embellished Givenchy couture. The champagne-coloured dress took us back to the vintage days. 16-year-old Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana, stunned everyone on her first awards appearance, in a Rubin Singer outfit.

Also, who said men’s fashion was all boring black and white? Shades of blue and fabrics like velvet ruled the scene this time around with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Chris Evans pulling off those blue suits in style. Dev Patel too looked ruggedly handsome in a well-fitted ivory suit, and he brought along his mom as his date — enough to make us go ‘awww!’

Attendees made activism a must-have red-carpet accessory too.  Emma Stone sported a Planned Parenthood pin while Ruth Negga, Karlie Kloss, Emma Roberts and  Lin-Manuel Miranda stood out with #StandWithACLU ribbons, an organisation that fights for civil rights — a need of the hour. If you thought animals, the voiceless, were left out of the soiree, you are mistaken. Complete with glittery UNICEF pins, Jackie Chan, who adopted two pandas in China after a devastating earthquake, brought two stuffed panda toys as dates to the ceremony as a gesture of support for animals too!
