Ace director S S Rajamouli heaped praises on the team of ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ for bagging the La Cinef Award for Best Short Film at Cannes 2024. “Kudos to the youngsters’, he wrote in his tweet and claims that Indian talent is breaching boundaries these days. He himself breached boundaries and bagged two Oscars for his blockbuster film ‘RRR’ and he knows the value of gaining international recognition and few coveted awards too.

The short film 'Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know' is a student film, directed by Chidananda S Naik, who studied at FTII, Pune. The short film is based on a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who steals a rooster, and this pushes her village into perpetual darkness.
S S Rajamouli who is known for making big ticket adventures like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’ seems to have a soft corner for new talent and keeps encouraging them even from Tollywood. He recently praised the path-breaking effort of the ‘Gaami’ team and expectedly the film won loads of critical acclaim.
