Hyderabad: The much-hyped ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has been riding on high expectations and is actually inspired by a Hollywood film ‘Children of Men’ which was released in 2006. “The plot is loosely based on the English film which was a renowned science-fiction thriller and talks about human extinction. It was nominated for three Oscars,’ says a distributor who adds, “The film revolved in a futuristic time, in a chaotic world in which women have somehow become infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea. Similarly, going by the trailers of ‘Kalki, Prabhas vows to give a ride to pregnant Deepika and assures to move her to a safe zone.”

Undoubtedly, the Prabhas-Deepika film has raised high expectations and after trailers and theme songs, the film is riding high on huge advance bookings. In Telangana, “The film expected to collect Rs 18 crore on Day one to surpass the Prabhas record of Rs 17 crore for Salaar to set a new record in Tollywood,” he informs.

Director Nag Ashwin who made a mark with path-breaking movies like ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ and ‘Mahanati,’, is trying to expand his thinking and imagination by making a futuristic film. “Nag Ashwin will join the ranks of Rajamouli if his film rocks the box office,” he concludes.
