Hyderabad: The action-adventure ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone has revived the 3D format and audience walking into theatres with specially-made spectacles to watch the action-adventure. “The film re-introduced the renowned 3D format for Telugu viewers and others and it was a bit fascinating to watch a film with tinted glasses after quite a long time,’ says producer-turned-director M S Raju. “It is always difficult and painful to make a movie in 3D format and it requires a lot of imagination and creative brilliance," he adds.

He claims that the first Indian film in 3D format was “My Dear Kuttichathan’ and it rocked the box office all over when it was released in 1984. “The much-celebrated kid-centric flick opened viewers to a new movie-watching experience and gripped them,” he adds. He claims that Hollywood has delivered many films in this format and the visual spectacle ‘Avatar’ was one among them. “Avatar’ released in 2009 was a visual splendor which also had a heart-wrenching story and engaging screenplay,’ he adds. “Actually, 3D films are motion pictures made to give an illusion of three-dimensional solidity, usually with the help of special glasses worn by viewers,’ he points out.

He also disclosed that there are two types of 3D formats- one actually shooting the film in 3D and the second, converting the 2D film into a 3D format. “I don’t know which format they adopted for Kalki and also they didn’t use intentional protruding gimmicks to enthrall viewers. This format attracts kids and family audiences in big numbers,” he concludes.
