A still from Adida Melam.

She started her career with a Samuthirakani film Nadodigal and made a big impact. Despite being speech-and-hearing impaired, the pretty looking Abhinaya has done a quarter century of films in several languages already! Now, the vivacious girl has quietly completed a Hollywood film One Little Finger, directed by Oscar nominee and Guinness Record holder Rupam Sarmah. Abhinaya shares her experiences attempting comedy for the first time in Adida Melam and other challenging roles in half a dozen flicks including One Little..

Abhinaya’s father Anandan says, “She plays a teacher in Adida Melam while Abhay, the lead actor, essays the role of a marriage broker. His policy is to fix an alliance by hook or crook. During one such episode, he makes a big blunder and tries to cover it up. This forms the basis for the rest of the film! It is a powerful role for Abhinaya and everyone knows timing is very important for comedy.” He also proudly exclaims that actress Urvashi,  who is the hero’s mom in the movie, complimented Abhinaya.

The moment you ask about her Hollywood project, her eyes glow.  Anandan explains, “The movie revolves around the theme of ‘Ability in Disability’. It is a powerful script and Abhi plays a NGO who works to eradicate the drug menace.

There are about 56 handicapped characters, and my daughter is the lead protagonist.” The film shoot is complete, and it will be in the running for international awards, including Oscars, reveals Anandan.

Nisabdham is yet another sensitive subject, to which she is looking forward. “A story about child sex abuse, Abhi plays the mother of a victim. An emotional character which has plenty of scope to perform,” Anandan and Abhi sign off!
