Though he was appreciated for his good efforts, his subsequent films were average grossers.
When Gautham Karthik was introduced by Mani Ratnam in Kadal, it created ripples. The handsome actor was touted to be the next big thing in K’town. Though he was appreciated for his good efforts, his subsequent films were average grossers.
The actor bounces back now with a quirky role in AR Murugadoss produced flick Rangoon, directed by Rajkumar. The actor speaks to DC about his role in the movie.
“I play Venkat, a Burmese repatriate in Rangoon, which is set in the year 2000. It’s about a boy who comes to Chennai for a living and his journey in the city will be related.”
Rajkumar has set the movie in North Madras and Gautham, who was born and brought up in Ooty, says, “Some of the places in Chennai are still alien to me.
The movie has been shot completely in North Chennai in places I am not aware of! It was a mind-blowing experience .”
On his makeover in the flick, he says, “I have a tanned look, contrary to my fair skin. I practiced a specific slang for the movie. The director has given an ultimate kutthu number and I think I have pulled it off well! Thanks to my choreographer Sathish.”
“Gautham has undergone a big transformation,” says director Rajkumar, adding, “We worked day and night on many days and he didn’t complain about it. He was the first to land on the shooting spot and the last to leave on any given day.”
Talking about link-up rumours, Gautham says, “I am least perturbed by them. I am a jovial person and I laugh at rumours about me .” When we probe him about the gap in between his films, he reveals, “I give my 100 per cent in every project I pick. Sometimes, circumstances are beyond my control. I am shooting continuously for many films and even now have four films in my kitty.”
