Sampath, the versatile actor, is not doing as many Tamil films as he used to. However, he has now bagged a role in a biggie — Pa Ranjith’s Kaala. A picture of him with the Superstar from the sets of the upcoming film is now making rounds on Twitter. DC got in touch with the actor and probed him about the role and the decline in his number of Tamil films lately.

“I have not been doing much in Tamil for the past few years, but that is not a conscious decision. I got busy with Telugu. From the start of my career, I have been keen on choosing only quality films and roles. So, lately the roles I have been getting in Tamil were not those projects I would jump for. However, I would like to see myself more in Tamil. That’s my priority because here is where I started my journey from,” he says.

About Kaala? “I can’t really tell about the role, but I can say it is an interesting one. Of course, it is a great experience to be working with the Superstar. I think I will be sharing a significant amount of screen space with Rajinikanth sir,” Sampath asserts.

He also heaps praise on director Ranjith —  “He is a very hardworking director. I have known Ranjith from the time when we did Chennai 600028, Saroja and Goa. I can  say one thing about him, he is extremely hard working. Also, he is a big taskmaster. He is very particular about what he wants. (laughs)”
When asked how he feels to have acted with all the four major stars of Tamil cinema — Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Ajith — the Saroja actor says, “I feel humbled and nice for being able to act with the four leading heroes of Tamil. To act with each one of them has been a different and great experience.”

Other than Kaala, Sampath is also acting alongside Santhanam in Sakka Podu Podu Raja, Venkat Prabhu’s production venture RK Nagar. He also has some significant film in Telugu including the ones with Ravi Teja and Pawan Kalyan.
