I spent my time introspecting on where I went wrong: Prashanth

Prashanth, who’s awaiting the release of his upcoming film Saahasam later this week, in a freewheeling chat with DC.
Here are excerpts from the interview.
You have been a part of landmark films like Majnu, Jeans and Chocolate. How does it feel to do a movie after a brief hiatus?
The best thing about being in the film circle is that it has given me a lot of reliable friends and a huge fan base. I had a good start, but then I couldn’t do considerably well later. I spent my time introspecting on where I went wrong — the positive and negative moves, hits and misses, and my future course of action. Now, I am back on track. But the adoration everyone has for me is amazing. The way they care is really touching. I could see that they miss seeing me onscreen. (Smiles)
Tell us about Saahasam...
I was waiting for the right script, and I found Saahasam. I’m back in to mainstream cinema in a nice way. I’d say I have given more than 100 per cent from my side. This feel-good film will have the right mix of action, suspense, romance, and comedy. I hope this film will put a smile on the audience’s face when they leave the theatres. We managed to rope in Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri for an item song. Nasser and Thambi Ramaiah are playing pivotal roles. This time, I have focused more on my role, dancing, and fights. I try to give something different in each film. You won’t be bored, I promise!
Your father, actor Thyagarajan, seems to be a great influence on you...
Of course, he is. The man has given his all to what I am become today.
You have been here for more than two decades. Are you happy?
I made my debut as hero in the flick Vaikasi Porandachchu and I have not looked back since. I am quite fortunate that I got to work with veteran directors and technicians without even realising what an opportunity it was, when I was an evolving actor. I have always felt that I am lucky. Till now, I am grateful to them because mostly they made me be a part of many winning movies. I believe both success and failure are happening according to destiny.
Dream role, if any?
Not really. But I’d be very happy if all my movies become a hit and that’s my dream (laughs).
What’s next?
To me, the script is the hero. I have been open to any kind of role — be it a multi-starrer movie, or anything else. If I get the right script, I don’t mind playing a negative role too. Also I’d love to do another film with Mani Ratnam sir. And yes, Jeans 2 is definitely on the cards!
