Dinesh who received critical acclaim for his power packed performance in the multiple award-winning (national as well as international awards) Visaaranai, tells DC about his 11 love failures, before debuting with the movie Attakatthi. We caught up with him at the promo of his upcoming flick Oru Naal Koothu (ONK) where he says he has had a makeover. “It’s a fresh character with trendy designer clothes, and I combed my hair after a long time since my debut. You will get to see a new Dinesh in the movie,” the actor quips, talking about ONK.

Like Attakatthi, in which he romances three girls, here also there are three heroines — Mia George, Ritvika, and Nivetha. “But I am romantically-paired only with Nivetha,” Dinesh quickly adds.

We ask him if he has fallen in love in real life. Without hesitation he admits, “I had eleven failed love affairs prior to my entering cinema. That way I get infatuated with all my heroines as well (laughs).”

The young actor, who comes from a theatre background, says it took many months to come out of the character of Pandi that he essayed in Visaaranai. “It’s an impactful character and Vetri Maaran sir is my mentor. The movie is about interrogation and the brutality of the police department, and is portrayed in an ultra-realistic manner. The entire cast almost lived the characters given, and for me it was tough to come out of it. I was severely hurt several times. I practiced yoga and breathing exercises to come out of my role,” he says.

The moment you talk about Kabali with Rajinikanth his eyes glow. “In the film’s intro scene itself, I was given two pages dialogue that I had to speak after Rajini sir. I was wondering if I could do it, but Ranjith sir gave me lot of confidence and I mugged them properly and gave my best shot,” he smiles.

Heaping laurels on Superstar he says,  “When I met him first, he said he watched Attakatthi twice and was happy for me. Later when he watched Visaaranai, he was wondering whether it was produced by Dhanush, Vetri etc. He was shouting in joy, ‘movie sure hit’!’ When I asked him about my acting, Rajini sir laughed in his inimitable way, ‘ha ha ha’. Needless to say, my last birthday was memorable because I celebrated it with him,” he adds.

When asked about rumours that he demands '3 crore for a movie, he says — “Really? It’s news to me! In fact, production companies owe me lot of mone
