Actor Kalaiyarasan, who is basking in the success of his first film, Raja Mandhiri as a hero, is all smiles. He has now signed China, which will be directed by Harshavardhan, a former associate of director AR Murugadoss. When quizzed about his role Kalaiyarasan said, “China is a suspense thriller that is centred around the life of an individual who owns a shop in Burma Bazaar. I play Madhi, a middle-class person in the film.”

The first look of China was released yesterday online and has caught the attention of netizens. Shooting has been wrapped up for this thriller film, and it is currently in post-production. Presently, re-recording of the film is underway and the team is eyeing a release in August.

According to the Kabali actor, shooting in live locations for the movie was an interesting experience. He added, “We shot in Burma Bazaar every Sunday after obtaining permission to open 20 shops in the area. This film is a great mixture of all elements — love, friendship and suspense.”

China’s cinematography is handled by Abinandan, who has Kavalai Vendam and KV Anand’s untitled film in his bag.

Music director Ved Shankar has composed two songs for the film, but Kalaiyarasan is doubtful whether both would make it in the final cut. Telugu heroine Ritu Varma will be debuting in Kollywood with China.
