Keeping numeric titles seems to be a trend in Tamil cinema now. After Dhanush’s 3, Suriya’s 24, and Vijay Sethupathi’s 96, now we have a film titled 88! Veteran actor Dr Rajashekar’s nephew, Madhan, debuts as the hero and also directs 88, which is all about the impact and ill-effects of tech advancements.

Talking to DC, Madhan says, “I have worked with many filmmakers besides my uncle. Since I am passionate about acting, I made my debut in a Telugu movie. When I finalised the script for 88, a film that talks about the menace of today’s technological advancement — with focus on the videos shared on mobile phones — I wanted to give a shot at direction as well. There’s a huge message in the movie.”

On the specialty of the title he says, “My mobile number in the film ends with ‘88’.” Bengaluru model and former Miss India Asia, Upasana Rai, who has been roped in as the female lead, says, “The script of the film was amazing and my role is an interesting one. Madhan sir knows what he wants and extracts the best from all. I think this is the right launch pad for me.”
