Top Telugu directors in awe of Animal success
Telugu film fraternity is happy about Sandeep Vanga making waves in B-town
Leading Telugu directors are a bit surprised with the huge collections for the recent release ‘Animal’ since it celebrates an overdose of violence over a new plot. “Telugu filmmakers are in fact shell shocked with the sensational openings since the film doesn’t boast of any novel storyline rather a routine revenge saga in commercial movies,” says a source and adds, “But they appreciate director Sandeep Vanga for going all out to make a full-blown action film where the hero is merciless and turns a killing machine.”
Talking about Ranbir Kapoor’s brilliant performance, "They gave him full marks for his extraordinary performance and hailed him as the new action star,” he adds.
“Although, they felt that the hero was a bit aggressive, but his fiery avatar has been lauded by new-generation viewers so they are reluctant to express their opinions since audience verdict is key and final,” he adds.
Coming to the plot, they felt that it was loosely inspired by Hollywood blockbuster ‘Godfather 2’, particularly on father-son conflict, and then it was narrated in a gore and violent manner, while ‘Godfather’ 2 was subtle and sublime. “Heroism is at its peak and Ranbir Kapoor proved that he would match other action stars like Yash and Prabhas as he goes about decimating his opponents to attain a larger-than-life image,” he adds. They also noted the misogynist aspect where Rashmika’s role was subdued and goes unnoticed barring few intimate moments with Ranbir.
Nonetheless, most of the top directors are quite happy that Telugu director Sandeep Vanga is making waves in Bollywood with his big action film after impressing viewers with an aggressive love story ‘Arjun Reddy’. “Sandeep has brought in a new style in romantic dramas by making his lover boy aggressive in his approach towards love in ‘Arjun Reddy. Now, he has designed an action film in a raw and ruthless manner. Probably, he was inspired by Korean movies a bit where violence, sex and gore are overboard in comparison to Hollywood films which boasts of choreographed action scenes. For instance, he made the hero slash the throat of his brother-in-law Siddhanth and takes heroism to next level. It looks to be inspired by ‘Squid Game’ where the last two remaining contestants are friends but have to make a choice,” he informs.
