Director Kalanjium, who gave an impressive performance as an upright cop in the recent film Kalavu Thozhirchalai, is gearing up with his upcoming directorial venture Mundhiri Kaadu, which is set against the backdrop of honour killing.

Talking about his film he said, “I am introducing Pugazh, who is the son of communist leader Mahendran as the hero. Subapriya will be seen as his romantic interest. The movie is about the predicaments faced by cashewnut farmers. At this backdrop, a dash of romance is thrown in. While the hero wants to become a police officer and the heroine aspires to become an IAS officer, their different castes come in their way and whether they fall prey to honour killing forms the crux.”

The movie is based on a novel Petthavan by noted writer Imayam.

“The role in Kalavu Thozhichalai gave me good appreciation,” he adds. Talking more about his role he shares, “Since I played a Muslim policeman and the story happens during the Ramzan time, I was not given the routine action and pistol clad cop. I would use my brain to nab the culprit rather than my brawn. I had an image makeover. Normally, I have a curly hair. But, my director wanted a close cut straight tresses and I underwent a special natural facial treatment to look fair.  I am keen to act in films, provided I get meaty roles.”

Ask him about Oor Suttri Puraanam, which got shelved due to his difference of opinion with actress Anjali, he said, “It is dropped as of now.”
