“I am not acting pricy. I understand the difficulties of producers. I don’t even demand extra facilities. These are rumours spread by my detractors,” clarified Yogi Babu, whose stake in K’town has skyrocketed after back-to-back hits.

Yogi, who started acting in small roles and filled the comedy slot left by Santhanam today is a hero to be reckoned with. At the audio launch of Dharmaprabhu, where he essays the titular character of Lord Yama, Yogi shared with us about the film, his close friendship with director Muthukumar and veteran actress Rekha who plays his mother in the movie.

“Muthu and I are friends for 15 years. And we used to live out of my meagre earnings. Many nights we have gone to sleep without food. But we discussed a lot about films and Muthu narrated the line of Dharmaprabhu then itself. I am happy that it has come to some shape now.  I also signed my good friend Sam Anton’s Ghurka around the same time. In a bid to support them, I completed both the films working day and night without a gap in 45 days.”

After a pause he adds with a pun, “People say that I have reached a position where none is there to compete. You can’t play in a place where there are no players. So, everybody is there and those who accomplish their jobs well will succeed.”

Heaping praise on actress Rekha, he said, “She always tells that whenever anyone sports Yama in a film the arrogance and pride associated with such a personality will automatically come to them. It is true! I also felt the same way.  This big budget movie bankrolled by Ranganathan is very important in my career and will stand beyond my time.”
