Koothan is an upcoming musical that sheds light on the plight of junior artistes and background dancers in the film industry. Directed by Venky, the film has Rajkumar playing the male lead, with Prabhu Deva’s brother Nagendra Prasad essaying a negative role. Keera and Sri Geetha are making their debuts as heroines with the film.

At a time when small films featuring newcomers are struggling to get screens, Koothan’s producer Nilgiris Murugan has tried to come up with an innovative way to drive ticket sales.

“I have always had an eye for innovative promotional techniques. When it’s a small film, if even 5 lakh people watch it, it’s considered a hit. So I am selling theatrical tickets to my friends and well-wishers beforehand. The tickets are valid for nine days, and they can be used at all theatres — whether single-screen or multiplexes. I want to thank the theatre-owners who are supporting me in this endeavour. I am selling tickets worth '20 lakh. My friends will do the marketing on my behalf and go meet members of the audience in person,” Murugan says.

Among those who’ve been spotting supporting the producer, are Namitha, Bhagyaraj, RK Selvamani, and composer Balz G.
