Actor and producer Vijay Sethupathi has crooned a song in ancient Tamil for the film Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum. The film, with Harish Kalyan and Shilpa Manjunath of Kaali fame as the romantic lead, is directed by Ranjith Jayakodi who earlier did Sethu’s film Puriyatha Pudhir.
‘Ispade Raja’ is a colloquial term used to refer to the King of Spades in a deck of cards. And Rani refers to the Queen.” While Harish plays a biker and an angry young man, Shilpa’s character is just the opposite. The first look poster of Harish and Shilpa seen kissing released earlier created a buzz and went viral.
“My composer Sam CS opted for a quirky voice for a number taken from ‘siddhars songs’ instead of a regular playback singer. It is more of a monologue and towards the end Harish Kalyan would continue it as a regular song. Sam suggested that it would be great if Vijay Sethupathi renders it, as he has a strange yet most appealing voice.
We approached Sethupathi and the next thing he said was “If you think my voice would suit and go well with the narration, I am ready.” The song was recorded few days back and it is learnt that each time VSP would ask Sam if he was okay with it.
