Vishal's noble gesture

Kollangudi Karuppayi, a singer from Sivagangai district is one of the pioneers in Tamil folk music. Also a Kalaimamani awardee, she was introduced into films by actor/director Pandiarajan in his film Aan Paavam in 1985.  

She was the one who made folk music popular through her filmy numbers. Having lost her husband and daughter, Karuppayi, who is now 80, is suffering from health problems and poverty.

After coming to know of her grievance — that she was not even a member of Nadigar Sangam and hence could not avail any help from them, actor Vishal swiftly took action and extended monetary aid to her. He also made all arrangements to enroll Karuppayi as the member of South Indian Artistes' Association (SIAA).
