Manoj to direct Mahat!
Manoj says that though his father introduced him to acting, his goal was to make it big as a director.
Born to veteran director Bharathiraja, it’s natural that son Manoj would be inclined towards filmmaking. But little did he realise that his dream would come true this soon. Yes, Manoj Bharathiraja, who debuted in Taj Mahal as an actor, will be wielding the megaphone, finally, with Mahat Raghavendra of Mankatha fame playing the lead role. Manoj says that though his father introduced him to acting, his goal was to make it big as a director.
“Appa has always regretted that I couldn’t become a renowned actor. As a guru, he has moulded several actors in Kollywood. Ever since I started acting, I have always paid attention to the making of films. Filmmaking has always been my priority, but only now it materialised. I am done with the script, and in fact, when I showed it to my father, he liked it. This film will remain special in my career. It’s about a child with a rare ailment from birth, and how he fights it,” Manoj tells DC, adding that the details regarding the other cast and crew will be announced soon.
Quiz him on the rumours about him directing a sequel to the Kamal-Sridevi starrer Sigappu Rojakkal, and he answers, “I had plans of directing it, but not now. I’ll do it definitely later, but it’s not a sequel to the original,” he clarifies. One may recall that Manoj has worked as an assistant director to Shankar and Mani Ratnam previously.
