Karthik Subbaraj, the Gen-next filmmaker who is all geared up to direct Superstar Rajinikanth in his next, has confirmed that his gangster action movie with Dhanush, is on and rumours about it having been shelved are false.

Conversing with a web channel, Karthik opened up on the reasons for the Dhanush film getting delayed. “It’s a gangster story set entirely in New York. After Iraivi, I readied a script for Dhanush and he also agreed to be part of with Thenndal to bankroll the project.

Even as I wrote the script, I wanted someone like Robert De Niro or Al Pacino from The Godfatheras the powerful antagonist. A lot of tedious pre-preparation was required and I had spent a few months in US but it was not that easy to approach them. There are casting agents and one has to go through them and the script has to be submitted in English, all of which took time. The budget also became big. When I came back, Thenandal was busy with Mersal and they backed out.”

He adds, “Now, Y Not Studios Sashi has come on board to produce and I am tweaking the story a bit and changing locations to reduce the budget.” The movie is expected to go on floors after he completes Rajini’s movie.
