Kuttrapathirikai, based on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, was denied censorship in both the regional and revising committees in 1991. The film was directed by noted filmmaker RK Selvamani-husband of actress Roja.

After almost 25 years, yet another Tamil film Metro, is facing a similar problem. Anandha Krishnan of Aal fame directs the film, which features award-winning actor Bobby Simha as the antagonist and Sirish Saravanan in the lead.

The story revolves around the chain snatching networks that operates in Chennai. When makers sent the film for regional censorship rating last week, the members refused to certify the movie, citing that the film had explicit violent content and can’t be released.

Now it has been denied by the Revising Committee as well, and  we hear they have banned the film. Sources from the censor board say, “A few films will have objectionable scenes and we suggest the makers  remove those scenes and get a re-censorship. But here in Metro, the core content itself is anti-social, which will affect the society. Hence we are banning the film.”

Meanwhile, the makers said that they had made the film based on real-life incidents and there’s a social awareness message to the public. “Keeping this in mind, the film has to be cleared by the censor board, as no film can get released in the theaters here without their rating,” they added.
