Chennai: Close shave for film Director Gautam Vasudev Menon

The director was driving his Mercedes Benz and the vehicle was mangled after he rammed onto a central median while attempting to avoid hitting a tanker lorry ahead of him, police said.

Chennai: Tamil film director Gautam Vasudev Menon escaped with minor injuries after the car he was travelling in got involved in a road accident on Rajiv Gandhi Salai near Sholinganallur during the early hours of Thursday. The director was driving his Mercedes Benz and the vehicle was mangled after he rammed onto a central median while attempting to avoid hitting a tanker lorry ahead of him, police said.

The incident happened around 3 30 am. He was returning from Mahabalipuram and driving towards the city, police said. A tanker lorry ahead of Gautham Menon’s vehicle made a sharp swerve and to avoid hitting the truck, the director swerved to his right and in the process lost control of the vehicle leading to the accident. “He was neither under the influence of alcohol nor overspeeding,” said a police officer. Passerby rushed to his aid and informed the police. Guindy Traffic investigation wing have registered a case and are investigating.
