Krishna brings Amala on board as Tarot Card reader
Tamil actor turns producer and signs on Ms Akkineni as the High Priestess in his web series.
Tamil actor Krishna has turned producer and has brought Amala Akkineni on board for his debut web series titled High Priestess. The title denotes a ‘Major Arcana’ card in traditional Tarot decks and Amala will be seen as a Tarot Card reader and ‘Regression Therapist’.
Talking to DC in an exclusive, Krishna says, “It was not a planned move. However, besides acting, I wanted to try my hands at something productive. And online platforms gave me an opportunity to explore my creative freedom to narrate my stories. I launched my banner Tribal Horse Entertainment, which for now will focus on web series and digital originals and make feature films later on. When the script of Pushpa Ignatius, known for her short film Pournami which made it to Cannes, came to me, it was very interesting. I felt this is the right project for my maiden production venture.”
How did he convince Amala Akkineni to helm the series as she is known to be very choosy about her scripts? “When Pushpa approached Amala and gave the story narration, she loved the character of the lead protagonist. Perhaps, she has not attempted a similar role in her career. She gave her instant nod. High Priestess just happened (smiles).”
Does Amala’s character in the series have similar traits of the High Priestess? “Yes, sort of! She plays a psychic, a tarot reader. It is an anthology narrated from her perspective. Aadukalam Kishore will be seen as her pair. An elated Krishna adds, “To have an ace artiste like Amala madam on board is a real blessing. And Nagarjuna sir is launching the project and I can’t ask for more.”
Brahmaji, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sunaina, Vijayalakshmi, Aadhav Kannadasan, Nandini Rai of Bigg Boss fame and GV Prakash’s sister Bhavani will be seen in important roles. The series would be streamed on Zee5 from April 25.
Amala Akkineni was last seen in Tamil as the lead actor of the film Karpura Mullai in 1991. In 2012, she made her comeback in the Telugu movie Life is Beautiful. Her more recent films includes the Malayalam movie C/O Saira Banu, made in 2017.
