The present situation of small films not getting enough screens for release looks scary. There’s no value for the content of a film. Only films with star value get theatres. This scenario should change,” a peeved Vikranth who replaces Vishnu Vishal in the sequel of blockbuster sports film Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu said.

The 2009 VKK, a sports drama on kabaddi was the debut directorial venture of Suseenthiran and its sequel is now directed by Selva Sekaran. Vikranth added, “Susee sir gave me an identity through Pandiya Nadu. So, when he wanted me to work in part 2 of VKK, I gladly agreed without asking any questions.”  However, though he was a cricketer and played league matches he says he didn’t even know how many players would be there in kabaddi. “On the first day rehearsals, I saw real life kabaddi players who were brought to coach us. I was literally taken back.

The kind of strength and energy needed for the sport was very high. I didn’t expect this. Over a period of time, I picked up its thread. The entire team was very supportive.”

Comedian Soori who earned the moniker ‘Parotta’ from part 1 and Appu Kutty play key roles in part 2. Arthana Binu essays Vikranth’s pair. Pasupathi, Ravi Mariya, Kishore are also part of the cast. Selvaganesh does the music.
