Raju Murugan's Joker has no censor issues

The much-anticipated political satire Joker, directed by journalist-turned-filmmaker Raju Murugan, created a huge buzz when it was to be released during the state elections. However, due to some unknown reasons, the movie’s release was postponed. With a hard-hitting theme, everyone thought it would have problems with the Regional Censor Board (RCB)... but Raju is happy that no such issues were faced.

“People are bold enough to discuss politics on social media, but it is not the same scenario in cinema. I took a clear call to make a film with a political backdrop and the result was Joker. Artistes, basically, do their work and are apolitical,” he said.

When queried about the censors, he reveals, “In the first place, we were apprehensive about getting the film cleared. Much to our surprise, we got a ‘U’ certificate with small cuts for violent scenes and cuss words. They also approved the idea that ‘everyone should speak politics’ which is the theme of the movie.”   
 The movie stars Guru Somasundaram, Mu. Ramasamy, Ramya Pandian, Gayathri Krishnaa, writers Bava Chelladurai and S. Balamurugan, among others.
