A still from Ticket

Television personality-music composer Raaghav Ranganathan is on a roll. Making his debut as a filmmaker with his Tamil-English bilingual titled Ticket, he seems to be an excited man. “I would call this a quirky thriller laced with subtle humour. I play the protagonist and and the story is about a guy who finds out that this is the last day of his life. Then what he would do — will he accept the death or spend his time regretting or in denial experiencing spectrum of emotions, forms the rest of the film,” says Raaghav and adds, “Though the concept is a bit philosophical, I have dealt with it in a different way. Moreover, the story loosely revolves around following your heart and does whatever that s makes you happy.”

The actor, who rose to fame with films like Kalyana Samayal Saadham and, Enthiran  believes that he’s essentially a performer first and then a director. “I have always wanted to be an artiste all my life. But I thought if I direct this script myself, it will be nice because I can connect to it emotionally on all grounds. I just look out for a feel-good film, both for myself and the audience and fans. At the end of day, that is what matters,” he smiles and tells us that he initially had plans of making this as a short film.

“Then I realised I had a lot to say. I narrated the story to a couple of my friends and they told me it’s engaging enough to be a movie on its own. Direction had been there for sometime on my mind, but the right time has come only now. This is actually my second script that I am making a movie on. Once I finish this, ‘'ll work on my previous one,” he explains. Ask him how he feels after directing a movie, he grins, “I have never thought of movies just for myself. Some sensibility should be there in the script and that is what motivates me to do a film. Movies of Stephen Speilberg and Mani Ratnam have inspired me a lot.” Ticket has Karthik Kumar, Lakshmi Priyaa  Sanam Shetty and Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran in pivotal roles.
