AR Rahman got his script ideas on a plane!
99 Songs is a sensual story about art and self- discovery.
The first-look poster of Bollywood film 99 Songs, scripted and produced by double Oscar winner AR Rahman, was unveiled on Wednesday, creating a huge buzz on social media. Said to be the story of a struggling singer, who aspires to become a successful composer, the film, however, is not a biopic of the maestro himself. Rahman has also written the story for the film, which has been described as “a sensual story about art and self-discovery.”
The Mozart of Madras took to his Twitter handle and posted, “With your support & good wishes, I’m pleased to share my movie’s first poster.” In an earlier interview to DC about his new avatar as a scriptwriter and producer, Rahman revealed that for the past few years, on long flights to the US, he has been toying with some script ideas. “Writing is the nucleus of any project. It is the core vision behind any film! Since my movie is a musical, it needed a really strong script to bring it to life and create an impact.” I discussed this idea with a couple of my friends, and also took courses from one of the Hollywood filmmakers, who gave me valuable inputs on screenplay. I’ve also been learning the art of script-writing and screenplay for a while now — and I’m happy that it has shaped out well!” he smiled.
When queried about wielding the megaphone, he replied that he would just be the creative producer apart from scoring music for the movie. “I do not have time for direction now, as it requires undivided time and attention,” the Roja composer had said. ARR’s banner YM Movies, which produced the short films Infinite Love and Changing Seasons will be making this musical as well, which could become a game-changer for the industry.
The poster features the lead pair in an elegant dance pose, etched against the sky, with a massive piano hanging from the heavens, and the hero holding onto it! Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy of The Dewarists fame, directs this movie apart from penning the screenplay.
