Support pours in for Bhagyaraj’s team in SIAA election
Following this, the opposition team led by Isari Ganesh pitted Bhagyaraj against Nasser.
Actor turned politician Kamal Haasan had come out in support of Nasser, who is contesting for the president post in the upcoming Nadigar Sangam election (2019-22) and proposed his name in his nomination papers. Following this, the opposition team led by Isari Ganesh pitted Bhagyaraj against Nasser.
Bhagyaraj says that he took the blessings of Rajinikanth who is reported to have said, ‘you are taking the responsibility to head the Nadigar Sangam and I am sure you would do well’. Apparently, Bhagyaraj had informed about his decision to contest to Rajini who is shooting in Mumbai for Darbar as well as to Kamal Haasan.
The veteran actor and filmmaker adds, “Kamal sir blessed me and said, ‘I don’t differentiate between both the teams. The construction of state-of-the-art Sangam building was going well, but there could have been some hitches. At the end of the day, we all want the completion of the building structure”. Bhagyaraj also ruled out political interference in SIAA election as he asserted that he would not have stepped in if it was there.
Bhagyaraj’s combination is named as Swamy Sankaradas Team, after Sankaradas who is considered one of the pioneers of Tamil theatre. This team has no strong allegations against the Nasser team and the only point they make in their opposition to the Pandavar Ani is that there have been long delays in the construction of the building for the Sangam.
“You need roughly `22 crores more for the completion of the building. We have no idea about Pandavar Ani’s agenda to raise this money. However, we would complete the building if we win in the election which would be of great help to several drama artistes,” Isari Ganesh stated. Actor Prashanth is a contender for the Treasurer (against Karthi) post from this team. Earlier, pointing at the delayed construction of Sangam’s ‘dream’ building Nasser said, “Here is the proof of what we have done in the last three years for the welfare of the association. Our team contests with this strength and we are confident that our members would support us in large numbers and elect us.”
